The Vermilion Lakes, which lie at the foot of Mt. Rundle are a much sought out place while in Banff. Early in December a cold snap descends on Banff. The air was crackling in the -31 temperature and the mist from the sulfur stream feeding the lake had coated the reeds and trees with a layer of frost. The sun starting to rise brought a mystical glow and mood to the early morning scene.
The Town of Banff is nestled at the foot of Mt. Rundle and bordered by the Vermilion Lakes. A cold snap descendedon the lakes in early December. The valley had yet to receive a heavy layer of snow so the frost that was caused by the air temperature and the warm sulfur spring feeding the lake, had coated the weeds and trees and made for a mystical mood. Once the sun started its arc above the mountains the color burst added to the mystical frosty and colorful scene - a true Banff Cold Snap was underway!
