Rocky Mountain Landscape

Rocky Mountain Landscape – what does that conjure up in your minds eye? The Rockies, they are a mountain landscape revered for their rugged beauty.

Certainly , I have a bias, living in Banff – but the epitome of Rocky Mountain Landscape is displayed by  Banff Lake Louise photos and if you get to experience a moment of the Rockies, you'll agree I am sure!

  • The name Rocky can be traced to an Algonquin and Cree phrase “ as sin wati “ translates "when seen from across the prairies, they looked like a rocky mass". The first mention of their present name by a European was in a journal of Jacques LeGardeur de Saint – Pierre in 1752, where they were called “Montagnes de Roche” ( Mountains of Rock. ) { from Wikipedia – Rocky Mountains }

With my online art gallery  I get to share the views and sights from “my backyard” and show the world the rugged, rocky beauty of this World Heritage Site - Banff National Park. People come from all over the world to see and experience a special moment in the Rockies – so let me share some “moments ” of my experience with you.

The Banff Springs Hotel: Constructed by the CPR ( Canadian Pacific Raliway ) in response to the famous quip by Cornelius Van Horne ( President of the CPR ) -

  • “If we can't export the scenery, we'll import the tourists.” The famous Banff Springs Hotel was built to house the first tourists! An Icon in Banff it has been welcoming tourists since 1888!

Lake Louise: Referred to by the natives long before as "lake of little fishes", it is another icon of the Rocky Mountain Landscape.

Morraine Lake: Over one valley to the East is Morraine Lake known for the signature colour of Rocky Mountain Lakes.

The Columbia Icefields: They sit perched a top the range of mountains running from Banff to Jasper and are the largest such in North America.
